SEPTEMBER 3, 2016

We enjoyed a day at Lake Lanier this past week boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and eating at a marina restaurant on the patio overlooking the cove.  It was a gorgeous day.

Yesterday afternoon, Linda and I took a trip to a couple of waterfalls in North Georgia.  We have been to Dick's Creek Falls in the past and, if memory serves me correctly, it was in the Fall, which add vibrant colors.  There are two falls and the first picture is of the lower falls and, if as you guessed, the second is of the upper falls.

REMEMBER, BEST VIEWED IF YOU CLICK ON A PICTURE.

The next falls were of Helton Creek Falls and there are two falls there as well.  You guessed it!  The first picture is of the lower falls and etc.

The last picture was along the road to Dick's Falls

August 18, 2016

As you may know, I primarily use Lightroom 5 for doing any photo post-processing.  Often, I play around on it to see what it can do.  I found something new.  Well, something else new.  I can directly export a picture from Lightroom to Photoshop elements, my other preferred software, which I use for "Spot Healing, adding text, and etc."

I did not notice in the drop-down menu that there were other software programs to which I could export a phote for specific processing.  The photos that follow are the result of a program entitled, Silver EFEX Pro 2, which if for Black and White photos.  These are only one of the results possible.

August 13, 2016

It is all in the eye of the beholder.  There is no right or wrong in what one likes in photos.  Color?  Black and White?  I enjoy both.  I did play around with Infrared, but it did not grab me.  My preference is landscapes, with few people as possible.  As with most things in life, there are exceptions, which lessens the trap of being boring.

I came across this picture of The Grand Canyon.  Linda and I were there in March of 2013 and as I looked at the picture, I thought 'mousey.'  It was overcast and light source was what it was.  The picture brought nice memories of our time there, but I thought that if we were there later in the year, it would look differently.

This is the original picture.

This is the picture, with adjustment in Photoshop Elements, based on my imagination.

This picture is with adjustment in Lightroom 5.  When I look at this photo, my eyes are drawn to the complete scene.  Not to get 'gushy,' but I see the rock structure, the colors, the snow, the trees, the depth, and for me, I see the memory of being there with Linda.

Now, to the Black and White version.  This is the same photo, but converted to Black and White, with other adjustments.

Guess where my eyes are drawn?  To the rock out-cropping in the front left.  This does not make me 'gush,' but it is the subject of the photo.  I have had many thoughts regarding it and the one that stands out is ...

What are your thoughts about it?  Go beyond the fact that it is Black and White.

What is is?

Some would say that I have too much time on my hands...

It is the result of playing around with the following photo taken at Gibbs Garden.

August 7, 2016

I had a couple of hours yesterday, so I went to Gibbs Garden and on the way home, I stopped at Poole's Mill, which has a covered bridge.  It is also a popular swimming hole.  It was very, very popular yesterday.  Not preferring to have many, if any, people in my pictures, I was limited on taking pictures.

When I went out, I had two purposes in mind,  First, I was going to use just one lens.  One that I would not normally use in taking landscape pictures.  It is a very wide angle lens and to get the composition that you deem best, you have to move toward or back from the subject.  You cannot just zoom in or out as if you were using a zoom lens.

Secondly, I wanted to take pictures from different angles.  For example, I have taken many pictures of the Monet Bridge, one of my favorite shots, but not from the position of today's shots.

Post processing is habitual.  When I look at photos, I believe that they have some processing applied, but it is a hobby as well.  When I have some extra time, I enjoy processing photos in software to see what results can be obtained.  Here are three photos that I have processed this week.  There are so many different options to use with the software in processing.
