March 31, 2013

It is a great time of the year to take pictures.  The trees, bushes, and plants that are in bloom are refreshing.  Many others words are available to describe them.  One day it is gloomy and POP... The Bradford Pear trees are in bloom; the daffodils are in bloom; the tulips are in bloom and the sky is bright blue on the sunny days.

Just fantastic!

March 26, 2016

The panorama was taken from the Country Store, which also has a restaurant with a beautiful view in the opposite direction.  I will mark the calendar to take this again in the Fall.

This picture is 5 different photo stitched together on Photoshop Elements software.  Some cameras and phone have a setting for taking panoramas.

This Azalea caught my eye for two different reasons.  Foremost is the heart shape of the plant and secondly, there is a Monarch Butterfly at the top of the flowers.

Do not forget to click on a picture to enlarge it.

MARCH 24, 2016

We enjoyed the Chapel at Callaway Gardens, which sets on the edge of a pond and has a babbling brook along side of it.  Picturesque and serene, when you are alone.  We had the fortunate privilege to attend a Pipe Organ Concert in the middle of Saturday afternoon.

March 19, 2016

On the road again...

We are at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA.    We went to the Butterfly Center, which is enjoyable.  The blue butterfly was my goal with the camera.  It would not stop fluttering about and I was about to give up when it landed next to me.

There was a Raptor Show at the Discovery Center, which very informative and exciting to see them close up.

The Azaleas are not in full bloom, but some areas are beautiful.

Focus on this last picture.  What do you see, other than a tulip?

The red and black markings in the center appear to be "The Devil" to me.

We went to see the Daffodils in bloom at Gibbs Garden ( www.gibbsgardens.com) yesterday; all 20,000,000 plus and about 100 varieties.

March 16, 2016

I needed to take a picture of a colleague and will use them for two different results.  The first photo is straight out of the camera and has to do with composition.  Notice the grain on the door in the background.  Does it not look as if cat or even Batgirl is stalking him?  The lesson, be aware of the background for your picture.

The second photo has been touched up to get rid of the color cast, but more importantly, the show you "Ray's Photo Dieting."  After processing in Lightroom, I brought the photo into Photoshop Elements editor, which has a function for 'slimming.'  Notice the difference in the width of his face.

Time for a quiz...  Have no fear, there are no right or wrong answers.

Below are photos posted two days ago, which are rendered in Black and White for comparison.  I know that there are those that just prefer color pictures over Black and White and that is okay.

There is one color picture that has two Black and White with it; one B&W has a slight vignette and the other does not.

1.  Which do you prefer (vignette or no vignette)?
2.  What stand out in your mind as you look at the color photo and the B&W photo?

Remember, it is best to click on a photo to enlarge it for better viewing.

March 1, 2016

I went for a walk on the Big Creek Greenway at lunch time yesterday.  I have to admit that it was not very green,  but that could change in just a short amount of time.  For the local yokels, Gibbs garden is open with 20 million Daffodils.  You heard it correctly...  I hope to go there on Monday, March 17.

Back to the Greenway.  Our assignment to the photo group in our subdivision for this month it "centered."  The object, as I understand, is to compose the picture so that when it is viewed, ones eyes will be drawn to the center of the photo.  Another aspect is to ask a question, "Does the subject belong in the center of the photo?"  Last months project was to have the subject based on the "rule of thirds."

We summit 3 photos only.  I like to start early on the assignment and try to take more than the minimum.  I t gives me opportunity to try on improving which ones that I will submit.

Do these photos fulfill the requirement?
